working through fear and doing “it” anyways
What is fear keeping you from right now?
The fear I'm talking about dealing with isn't based on a real threat...like I'm not encouraging anything dangerous or reckless here.
I'm talking about fears that sound like this:
"I'm afraid I'll look dumb, get it wrong, or won't be successful. I'm afraid of what people will think or say."
Also, "I'm afraid I will fail."
In my experience, what you fight, fights back...As in, you can only put the thing you fear off for so long, before it comes a' knockin' again.
have you tried these things?
Talk to someone who has accomplished what you are afraid to do. Ask them the process they took to get there, the steps they took, and how they overcame their obstacles. Also ask how they feel now that they did it.
Could you break this thing down into tiny actionable steps? I'm talking as small as something you could do each day for 10 minutes. Something that would bring you closer to doing the thing that you fear. Can you write that step on a 3x5 card every day?...day after day, next step after next step? The sense of accomplishment each day will feel really good and encourage you to continue to slowly chip away at your "fear" every day.
Have you said out loud what it is that you would like to do? The fear that you want to overcome? Or the goal that the fear is keeping you from? The feedback, words of encouragement, or someone else's experience with that same obstacle can really give you the direction, support and accountability that you need to begin, and have success!
How can you practice what you are afraid of in a small or safer environment, while you grow your confidence?
...and here is something to remember; failure is only possible if you don't try. Any steps you take are just that…trying, practicing, getting closer...but not failing. What would you tell your children? "Don't try this unless you're going to get it 100% right the first time, you dummy!"
Mommas, when it comes to doing anything that makes you a more fulfilled, happier, authentic version of yourself, you’ve gotta find a way to do it WITH THE FEAR.
